Welcome to Primary 4/5!

Welcome to Room 11's class blog for 2014/2015!

The pupils have settled well in their new classroom and have had a fantastic start to the year.

Room 11 pupils

Our classroom

We have 25 children and 4 groups!

Our self-registration table and information board.

Our 'Star Helpers' chart - this is changed weekly.

Quiet Reading Corner - stacks of fiction and non-fiction books! Children are encouraged to read regularly and complete a book review when they have finished. At the end of each term, a child will be chosen as our class' Reading Rocket!

Our morning activity timetable

First week back

On our first week back, we created a Time Capsule. We measured our height, expressed our hopes and dreams for the forthcoming year and listed our hobbies, friends and favourite things. Some of the children chose to bring in a special photograph or object to add to their Time Capsule. They have all been sealed away until the end of the year. We are looking forward to seeing how much we will have grown and if we will have achieved our hopes for the year!

The children also decorated beautiful 'All About Me' bunting - don't they look fantastic!

In groups, the children learned about their Rights and Responsibilities. We created our Class Charter, with class rules and also their expectations of Miss Arthurs. This was then agreed and signed by everyone in Room 11!

We took a VAK Learning Styles quiz so that Miss Arthurs could find out what type of learners we are in Room 11. It was extremely interesting to discover what we need to learn as an individual as well as learning about the learning styles of other pupils in the class. 6 children are Visual learners, 6 are Auditory learners, and 7 are Kinaesthetic learners. 5 children were a mixture of 2 styles!

Topics

No rest for the wicked! In our first couple of weeks we learned all about the Mosque in RME. We can confidently identify the different features of the Mosque on the inside and out.

In Art&Design, we highlighted the grand features of the Mosque by creating a silhouette painting using watercolours and black paper to outline the features. Don't they look stunning!

We are now learning about Living Things in our Science topic and are able to confidently classify animals into vertebrate and invertebrate groups. We will keep you posted with our progress in this topic as we will be going on a minibeast hunt next week - we're very excited!

Thank you for visiting our class blog. Keep checking back to see what we have been up to! We are looking forward to the challenges that Primary 4/5 holds for us.
